Jomafarm
Jomafarm was established on March 2024,located in the west of Albania near the seaside, in the village of Ville Bashtove, near to is a snail farming for growth of the species of HELIX “ASPERSA MULLER”, mainly for the purpose of culinary, its scope is HELIX snail full biological cycle farm with natural method.
Jomafarm is established by two owners, one pharmacist and one hospitality entrepreneur.
The land snail Helix is a food product that is lacking all over the world due to problems related to the conditions of the planet’s climate change, lack of rain, high temperatures and environmental pollution. Since harvesting in the wild is increasingly difficult everywhere, it is essential to produce in tanks with a complete biological cycle. Over the years, selections of Helix species have been implemented, particularly suitable for intensive farming, due to the quality of the meat and the quality of the saliva extracted from the mollusks for cosmetics and medicine.
The total investment of the first year is around 30.000 €.
Why Albania is an opportunity for developing snail farms?
There are some strong reasons why:
- a) Albania is a developing country, which will soon enter the European market
b) there are ideal mild climatic conditions suitable for this cultivation
c) it is a country with a strong agricultural and entrepreneurial appeal on the part of the inhabitants, with availability of suitable land from the climatic point of view, even in small or medium plots.
d) there are easy transport and export conditions to any European country
The most important data in this brief economic overview is, unlike other livestock farms, the total absence of the cost of purchased food (feed). Food for growing mollusks is mainly produced on the farm, such as planting and cultivating the indicated plants. Only 10% can be represented by puffed cereals bought from abroad.
The main product for the moment is snails for gastronomy purpose in the future our purpose is to provide snails products for pharmaceuticals uses.
